Senior trainer Cristina Mendonca looks on as Diego, a rescued California sea lion, balances a basketball during a rehearsal for a new exhibit opening at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The Georgia Aquarium opened the new exhibit Thursday. As part of the aquarium’s 10th anniversary celebration, it’s introducing 14 rescued California sea lions. The sea lions come from California’s Marine Mammal Center, which put out a call for aid during a mass stranding of sea lions on beaches. Four young sea lions are among the aquarium’s new residents, and the exhibit includes mature animals rescued years ago as well.
